2001 ANNUAL CONFERENCE: THE OBBLIGATO KEYBOARD TRADITION The Midwestern Historical Keyboard Society takes great pleasure in announcing details of its 2001 annual meeting/conference. This annual event, held in different American cities each year, has become a significant forum on the history of keyboard instruments and their literature, as well as a showplace for insightful performances of early music. The 2001 conference, co-sponsored by the Northwestern University School of Music, was held on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois (USA), March 22-24, 2001.
The 2001 conference, the Society's seventeenth, followed the theme, "The Obbligato Keyboard Tradition." As in past meetings, this event included lectures and readings of scholarly papers by noted early keyboard music and instrument authorities. Attendees also enjoyed concert performances by the Newberry Consort directed by Mary Springfels, the Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble, MHKS members, and special guests. Also featured was the Society's annual exhibit of early keyboard instruments, with harpsichords, clavichords, and fortepianos--built by some of North America's finest instrument builders--on display.
