A curious and rare American-built upright pantelona restored organ built in the year of the American independence by the great naturalized builder David Tannenbergsquare pianos from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, some restored and playablea keynote address by Michael Cole, distinguished British author of The Pianoforte in the Classical Eraconcerts of Moravian music on clavichord, fortepiano, and harpsichordscholarly papers and lecture-demonstrations on Moravian music, and a host of other topics, by North American scholars and performersan exhibit of early keyboard instruments by some of Americas best buildersthe sights of Bethlehem, PA, site one of the two prominent Moravian settlements in the U.S.the picturesque campus of Moravian College, the sixth oldest college in the U.S., where the conference is to take placethese are the pleasures that await those who participate in the joint meeting of the Southeastern and Midwestern Early Keyboard Societies in Bethlehem, PA, March 7-9, 2002. Concurrent with the conference will be the semi-final and final rounds of SEHKSs Fifth Mae and Irving Jurow International Harpsichord Competition, with judges Kenneth Gilbert, Arthur Haas, Charlotte Mattax, and Davitt Moroney, and a list of talented young contestants from here and abroad. This prestigious competition will award prizes totally nearly $10,000, with $5,000 going to the first-place winner. A recital by the winners will conclude the conference. No early-keyboard enthusiast could ask for a more action-packed two-and-a-half days. Please join us for this conference, much of which will take place in a charming colonial building built in 1748 (and plan to give yourself some extra time before and after to sample the delights of this historic area).

An integral part of the conference will be the semi-final and final rounds of the 2002 Mae and Irving Jurow International Harpsichord Competition. And, as always, the conference will feature instrument exhibits by some of North America's finest builders of harpsichords, clavichords, and fortepianos.
